Mellieha ([məli hə ː] or il-Mellieha) is a large village (7221 inhabitants in December 2008) located in the north-west of Malta. Total area is 22.6 square kilometers. Mellieha is one of the most picturesque destinations in Malta. The city center boasts splendid hotels, fine restaurants and traditional cute shops. This is a popular tourist destination during the summer months. Mellieha is a village that has developed under British colonization.
For two centuries, the area was abandoned due to fear attacks by corsairs and Saracens. Before that, only a few villagers have lived in the area. After the British encouraged the Maltese to settle in Mellieha, the village flourished. Currently, the village includes a large number of villas. Even foreigners choose to settle in Mellieha. As an example, the president of the Foundation of Social Capital did.
Mellieha Town, through its sustainable initiatives managed to achieve excellent title. The components of this success has been local community involvement, commitment and strategic vision of the very active NGOs, supported by the City Council and city goods that have operated in irreversibly.
