About St Georges Bay - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
St. George Bay is located along the northeast coast of Malta in the tourist area of St. Julian, situated at a distance of 8 km from Valletta. Today, golf is populated with tourists and locals, but there was always the same. Today, the bay looks very different than it was several years ago.
St. George's Bay was the first beach in Malta who has been undergoing a refurbishment program. Tourism Authority (MTA) Malta has recognized the potential range and in 1998 decided to undertake a project that would transform the beach into a clean and welcoming.
The project involved many aspects. The first step was to conduct all necessary environmental studies to ensure that redevelopment of the beach would have a major negative impact on the environment, and to ensure that benefits will be comprehensive. A detailed study of the marine was conducted and the results were used to develop a plan for beach restoration.
Once the preliminary plan was developed, more detailed scientific studies have been conducted over many years. These studies were subject during their execution quality. An environmental impact assessment has been made to ensure that the potential impact resulting from the project has been properly understood. Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) has granted a permit for project development in 2000.
The detailed design, moving sand and ancillary infrastructure improvements (which included the construction of culverts to divert rainwater from the beach, the replacement of sewerage infrastructure, and installation of utilities), all of which began in 2003.
In May 2004, fueled beach was subject to a monitoring program that aims to obtain information about the stability of the beach if the sand is loose and set water quality in the bay. In addition to rearranging the beach, and MTA is committed to beautify the area.
